Lake Lanier Fishing Report Feb. 8 2011

Fishing for striped bass has been slow on Lake Lanier but it is going to improve fast with the weather forecast next week. The back of the creeks are going to warm fast and the stripers are going to be right with them. The next six weeks are always our best time of the year to catch a big fish. Pulling the big baits we will not catch as many fish but seeing a 1 pound plus bait com flying out of the water is well worth it. We should also start catching some fish on bucktails cast to the banks. During the month of March bucktails are hard to beat. Some days you will catch more fish on bucktails than live bait. The most popular bucktails are 1/4oz. Farr Jigs tipped with a small Zoom Fluke or Fluke Jr. White and chartreuse will be the two primary colors.
The crappie bite is also picking up on Lake Lanier. We have been spending some time building brush and in the upcoming months it will pay off big time. The crappie are still deep for the most part but look for them to come shallow in the coming weeks. The first two weeks of April are the best time to bring the kids. Crappie fishing is the best thing for kids. See you on the lake.
