June 2008 - Lake Lanier Fishing Report

The striper fishing on Lake Lanier is very strong right now. The stripers have finished their spawning run up both rivers and are now working their way south. A few fish are coming on topwater on the south end of the lake but the better tactic is to use downlines over the points with access to deep water. Some popular areas are Ada Creek, Holly Park, and the mouth of the Chestatee River. Be sure to take plenty of bait. Herring is the preferred bait right now. The schools of stripers are large and they are getting larger daily. It is not umcommon to hook several fish at one time. The fish are a mixed bag of all sizes. one fish might be twelve inches and the next fish may be 30 pounds. The lake level is still lower than normal for this time of year but the lake is as safe as ever to travel.
